Susan (Huffman)
Strand
Mar 17, 1947 — Oct 2, 2026
Hastings, NE formerly of Bassett, NE
Susan “Sue” Strand was born on March 17, 1947, in Elgin, NE, at her grandparents’ home. She attended elementary school in Bassett, NE and graduated from Westside High School in Omaha, NE.
On December 23, 1968, Sue married Barry Colacurci, and together they welcomed two daughters, Michelle and Jennifer. On June 9th, 1978, Sue married Lewis Strand, and they were blessed with a son, Matthew.
Family was always an important part of Sue’s life. A proud grandmother, Sue cherished her four grandchildren. Her family also included six great-grandchildren, who brought her so much joy.
Quiet and private by nature, Sue treasured the people who were close to her. Throughout her life, Sue was blessed with many special friends. Some of her favorite moments were spent enjoying morning coffee, getting together for food and conversation, and taking out-of-town getaways with her friends. Making time for the people she cared about was especially important to Sue. These friendships brought her much happiness and created many wonderful memories.
Sue also treasured time with her family, dogs, camping, and traveling south in her motor home during the winter months. The simple pleasures of life—and the memories made with the people and pets she cared about—meant so much to her.
Sue leaves behind her daughters, Michelle (Greg) Heuertz of Hastings, and Jennifer (Robert) Beck of Cozad, NE; son, Matthew Strand of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Jake (Tiffini) Stenka of Nebraska City, NE, Josh (Paige) Stenka of Norfolk, NE, Maddy (Will) Bowman of Wayne, NE and Austin (Hannah) Heuertz of Hastings; six great-grandchildren; extended family, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many friends who will miss her dearly. Those who knew her will remember the love she had for her family, the friendships she cherished, and the many simple moments that became treasured memories.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and M.B. Huffman; her sister, Mary “MeMo” Schelkopf; and her husband, Lewis Strand.
Sue will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever be a part of the family she loved so much.
