Robert “Bob” Ray Hutton was born at home on August 3, 1938 to Elwin B. and Hope L. (Turpin) Hutton on the old Beck place northwest of Newport, Nebraska. Bob attended school at Mariaville, Nebraska through the 8th grade. After that time, Bob helped his folks on the farm and later he was a hired hand for ranchers. Bob was a “jack-of-all-trades.” He repaired many windmills in the area. He first worked for Lou Hall, and then he went to work on the Bert Nolles ranch until he moved back to Newport. Bob did many odd jobs for people. He also worked for the Village of Newport and was a longtime member of the Newport Volunteer Fire Department.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; one brother, Donald; along with numerous aunts and uncles. He leaves to mourn his passing, his sister, Janet and husband, Terry Stewart of Bassett, Nebraska; nephew, Donald Copeland and his sons all of Waco, Nebraska; along with several other family members.
Graveside Memorial Services were held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the Willowdale Cemetery northwest of Newport. Pastor Wayne Owens officiated at the event. Memorials were suggested to the Newport Volunteer Fire Department in Bob’s name or to the donor’s choice. Hoch Funeral Home of Bassett was in charge of arrangements.
