Richard Charles Strand was born on June 30, 1949, to Parker and Barbara J. (Rice) Strand and passed away on November 13, 2025, in Bassett, NE.
Richard grew up on Goose Creek on his family's ranch near Koshopah, NE. He attended Cottonwood through 1st grade, Progressive Valley District 16 school through 8th grade, and then attended Ainsworth High School until a hunting accident, after which he completed his GED.
On June 30, 1974, he married Linda Rae Crooker in Wood Lake, NE, and they were together for 49 years. To this union, two sons were born: Ricky and CJ. Richard worked on his parents' ranch and later worked for Chase Well Drilling in Ainsworth, NE.
Richard loved hunting and fishing, especially the bass fishing tournaments in South Dakota with the Borderline Bassmaster Club, and he enjoyed the time spent fishing with his grandsons.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Linda, his son Ricky, and his sister, Becky Kobek. He is survived by his son, C.J. of Ainsworth; grandsons, Jon and Matthew; brothers, Roger Strand and wife, of Lincoln, NE, Willard Bill Strand of Ainsworth, and Ron Strand and wife, Lisa of Elkhorn, NE; sister, Barbie and husband, Jack Robinson of Fairbury, NE; brothers-in-law, Dave and wife, Barb Crooker of Long Pine, NE, and Joe and wife, Tammy Crooker of Ainsworth; sisters-in-law, Georgia and husband, Jerry Gaskins of Paonia, CO; and Lillie Parkinson of Ainsworth; along with nieces, nephews, and other family members.
A Graveside Memorial Service was held on Monday, December 8, 2025 in the Ainsworth Cemetery. Pastor Gary Graesser officiated at the event. Memorials were suggested to the family for a future designation. Hoch Funeral Home of Ainsworth assisted with arrangements and online condolences may be left for the family at www.hochfuneralhome.com.
