Margaret L. (DeBolt) Seadore

July 15, 1931 — April 16, 2023

Margaret Louise DeBolt was born July 15, 1931 on the home place in Bassett, Nebraska to parents Arthur and Emma (Christensen) DeBolt. Margaret had one brother, Leo, who was born four years earlier. Margaret’s childhood memories of the home place were simplistic and challenging as there was no electricity or running water to the house. Candles for evening lights and bucketing all water to the house were the every day reality. When Margaret was six years old, her father, Art found an apple crate for her to stand on so she could reach the counters, sink and stove to help start cooking meals. That passion for cooking was with her all her life. Margaret also experienced the grocery rationing of World War II and the hardship of watching her mother, Emma, struggle and die with a lingering illness.
Margaret loved school. She attended Rock County Grade School and Rock County High School, where she was awarded recognition for perfect attendance in both. After graduating in 1950, Margaret’s first employment was working at a flower shop and also the Bassett Movie Theater. In the spring of 1952, Margaret met John A. Seadore Jr. at the Rock County Fair. At that time, John was serving our country in the Korean War, so the relationship relied on letters. After the war, John and Margaret were united in marriage on March 15, 1953. To this union, two children were born: David and Sharon.
In the early years of their marriage, Margaret and John moved to Broadwater, Nebraska where John defused bombs at a demolition depot. In 1955, they returned to Bassett to begin their true passion of working together at the Lackaff Cattle Corporation. Margaret was blessed to fulfill many of the passions of her life here. She loved the busy summer days where she cooked for many men during the haying season. She loved flowers, especially hollyhocks which grew to great lengths. Margaret and John both loved gardening and had impressive “green thumbs” when it came to growing all types of produce. Neighbors would come for miles to receive the bounty of their many hours of working together. Margaret also enjoyed and was good at canning products. Every year she would enter her canned goods and baked goods in the Rock County Fair, where she won numerous ribbons and many best of show awards.
Following the death of her husband in 2009, Margaret moved to Long Pine and lived the remaining years of her life with her son. Periodically she would travel to Lexington, Nebraska, to visit her daughter and thoroughly enjoy the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Margaret loved attending the Ainsworth Assembly of God Church, the fellowship of the church family and listening to gospel music.
Margaret passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023 at the Sandhills Care Center in Ainsworth at the age of 91 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Emma DeBolt; brother, Leo DeBolt; along with her husband, John Seadore. Margaret leaves to mourn her passing, her son and daughter-in-law, David and Diane Seadore of Long Pine; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Dan Anderson of Lexington; three grandchildren, Denise, Tamara, and Nathen; eight great-grandchildren, Titus, Morionna, Max, Jaden, Allan, Zackary, Leyla and Daniel; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Shirley and Gordon Hitchcock of Ainsworth; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Albert and Lois Seadore of Callaway, Nebraska; along with numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.
