Marge J. Bonenberger age 89, of Bassett, NE passed away May 7, 2023 peacefully at home with loving family at her side. She was born February 10, 1934 in Winner, South Dakota to Roman Phillip Coash Sr. and Matilda Lydia (Cahoy) Coash. She started school in Carns, NE (1st-4th grade) and then attended 5th-8th grade at a rural school at Long Pine, NE. She attended high school at St. Mary’s in O’Neill, NE. Marge went to college at Wayne State and graduated with a teaching certificate. One of her highlights of college was her summer trip to Mexico City. She then taught for four years in rural schools around Newport, NE
Marge met the love of her life, Bernard Leo Bonenberger and they got married on May 26, 1955. Together they had four children: Mike, Deb, Steve, and Brian. Marge was a stay-at-home mother and took care of the financial books for Bonenberger Trucking and Mr. B’s Bar.
Her biggest passion in life was her quilting. Marge made over 20 quilts that will continue to warm her family forever. She was a member of Centennial Quilt Guild of Winner, SD and Sandhills Quilt Guild of Bassett, NE. Her artistic ability included cross-stitch, needle point, and crochet. Mother had a deep Catholic Faith.
She lost her husband in 1990 and spent the rest of her life spoiling her grandkids. She helped Mike raise his two boys, Rob and Luke and traveled thousands of miles to Montana to visit Deb’s family every year. Deb and Darel had six daughters: Tracey, Teran, Tiara, Tristan, Taylor, and Torey and Marge was able to live with Deb and help her when the twins were born. She was able to enjoy over 14 years of wonderful memories with her great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; parents, Roman and Matilda; brothers, Harold and Roman Jr. “Red.” She is survived by children, Mike of Grand Island, NE, Deb (Darel) Sewell of Sheridan, MT, Steve of Bassett and Brian of Grand Island; her sister, Joan (Gene) Krysl of Omaha, NE; sisters-in-law, LaVonne Coash of Lincoln, NE, Karen Bonenberger of Louisville, NE, and Mary Ann Albrecht of Atkinson, NE; brother-in-law, Ronny Bonenberger (Ellen) of Omaha; along with eight grandkids and ten great-grandkids and numerous other family members.

Funeral Services were held on Thursday, May 11, 2023 in Holy Cross Catholic Church at Bassett with Father Mike Wetovick as Celebrant. Music was provided by Trudy Nolles wit the congregation singing “How Great Thou Art,” “Amazing Grace,” “Here I Am Lord” and “On Eagle’s Wings.” Casket Bearers were: Kyle McGree, Kevin Pearce, Seth Spain, Clay Bonenberger, Kendall Bonenberger and Justin Sybrant. Honorary Casket Bearers were: All of Marge’s Other Family and Friends. Interment was in the Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials were suggested to Holy Cross Catholic Church in Marge’s name.
