Madeline 'Lynn" K. (Cook) Strelow

Lynn Kay Strelow, age 81 of Bassett, NE passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024 at the Rock County Hospital in Bassett. She was born on September 9, 1942 at Bloomfield, NE to Milford and Evelyn (Downie) Cook. She was the oldest with one brother, Dennis Cook and three half-sisters, Lisa Burkinshaw, Shelly Boyles and Carma Kluthe.
Lynn attended grade school in Holt County. She graduated from O'Neill Public High School in 1960. She went on to Cosmetology School in Norfolk, NE. She worked at a beauty shop in Stuart, NE. Lynn was united in marriage to Charles P. Strelow on September 16, 1962 at the Methodist Church in Chambers, NE. To this union four children were born: Monte, Regina, Lynette and Connie.
Lynn and Charlie lived south of Newport, NE and worked for Lawrence Peterson (Monte was born there). In the fall of 1963, they moved to the Fred Boettcher Ranch south of Atkinson, NE (Regina and Lynette were born there). In the fall of 1968, they moved to the John Strelow homestead and started milking cows (where Connie was born in 1971). Later, they purchased the Fred Strelow homestead in 1978, where they continued to milk cows until the fall of 1982 following the death of Charles on July 9, 1982.
Lynn and Connie moved to Hastings, NE in the fall of 1985, where Lynn attended Medical Technician College there. In the fall of 1986, they moved to O'Neill, NE where she worked for Holtz Lumber from 1986 through 1988. Lynn went and completed her LPN Certification from Northeast Community College in 1989. Lynn worked for the West Holt Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill and also National Medical Care Equipment. Then she continued her nursing occupation at the Stuart Nursing Home and the Rock County Hospital. Lynn moved to Bassett in 2001 where she retired and remained there until her passing. She was a member of the Bassett United Methodist Church. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie; brother-in-law, Carl Strelow; sisters-in-law, Maggie Buoy and Betty Strelow; stepmother, Donna Cook; along with two nephews, Rod Cook and Darby Cook. She leaves to mourn her passing, her son, Monte (Stacy) Strelow of Bassett; daughters, Regina (Tory) Beck of Bassett, Lynette (Ed) Qualley of Valentine, NE and Connie (Jack) Olson of Volin, SD; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis Cook of Plattsmouth, NE; half-sisters, Lisa (Kip) Burkinshaw of Ainsworth, NE, Shelly Boyles of Lincoln, NE and Carma Kluthe of Elm Creek, NE; stepbrother, Harlan Liska of Hadar, NE; sister-in-law, Susan Cook of Plattsmouth; along with nieces, nephews and other family members.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the Bassett Methodist Church in Bassett, officiated by Pastor Jenice Epp. Music was provided by JoAnn Swanson with the CD Selections of “Grandma’s Song” and “How Great Thou Art” by Alan Jackson being played. The obituary was read by Jaxx Strelow. Casketbearers were John Strelow, Tyson Beck, Ryan Shaw, Justin Ramm, Dakota Sage, Wyatt Olson and Kyle Qualley. Honorary Casketbearers were all of Lynn’s other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment followed in the Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials were suggested to the Rock County Hospital, Bassett Methodist Church or Newport Volunteer Fire Department in Lynn’s name.
