Lewis was born at the hospital in Ainsworth, NE on August 24, 1933. He was the third child of William and Helen Botsford. On November 22, 2024, Lewis passed away at his home in Ainsworth.
Lewis attended elementary and high school in Ainsworth and was a member of the class of 1952. He enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1953 through 1956. While at basic training, he trained mules to pack food and ammunition to troops. When Lewis was honorably discharged, he returned to his home in Ainsworth.
A skill Lewis learned from his dad was house painting. They painted together for several years. Lewis also worked for a few years at the McDonalds clothing store in Ainsworth. When he retired from McDonalds, he went back to house painting again. After his father passed away, Lewis became a full time caregiver for his brother, George, who had a complete physical disability. Lewis's dedication to George was a great example for all of us.
Camping was an activity Lewis enjoyed. He purchased a motor home and would load George up in that and they would head to various campgrounds. The Chadron State Park was one of their favorites. Another activity Lewis enjoyed was the Masonic Lodge. He was proud to be a Mason and enjoyed the fellowship he found there.
Walking his dogs and being around pets was a comfort for him, His dogs, Dixie and Suzy, and his cat, Snooks gave him many hours of enjoyment.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Bruce and George Botsford. He is survived by his sister, Doris Leach of Ainsworth, six nephews and other family members.
Combined memorial services for George and Lewis Botsford were held on July 5, 2025 in the Ainsworth Cemetery.
