Jeanie Marie Carlson was born on January 22, 1958 to Raymond L. and Margaret E. “Peg” (Jamison) Carlson, the youngest of four children. Jeanie passed away peacefully on October 18, 2023, at the Sandhills Care Center in Ainsworth, Nebraska.
After graduating from Rock County High School, Jeanie obtained her nursing degree from Bishop Clarkson School of Nursing. She had a wonderful, fulfilling career as a Cardiac Operating Room nurse. When her gift as a nurse was needed elsewhere, Jeanie traveled throughout the country as a traveling nurse for a number of years. Unfortunately, she eventually had to stop working in the career she loved due to the progression of her MS diagnosis.
Jean was a life-long learner. She went back to school and obtained a business degree and learned to play the piano later in life. Jean was always musically inclined. She played clarinet in high school and had a beautiful singing voice which she shared while participating in multiple vocal ensembles. Jeanie was also an avid photographer and took many classes to perfect her photography skills. When her niece and nephew were younger, she was always found taking pictures of them. She also loved taking pictures of outdoor scenes in the many places that she lived.
Jean loved to run and ran the New York City Marathon. She also loved playing golf, doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku as well. Her sense of humor carried her through the many difficulties of her disease.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and her three siblings, Norman, Patricia and Rodney. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sister in-law, Joann Carlson, nephew, Lucas Carlson, niece Taylor Carlson-Cahill and her dearest friend Julie Hoch-Iacobelli. She also leaves behind many cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Sandhills Care Center for the kindness, compassion, and care that they showed to Jeanie over the last few years.
