George Botsford

April 25, 1928 — January 6, 2024

George Willis Botsford was born April 25, 1928, at his family home in Long Pine, NE and passed away at his home in Ainsworth on January 6, 2024. George was the child of William and Helen Botsford.  He attended both elementary school and high school in Ainsworth, graduating in 1947.  In his middle teen years, George was diagnosed with rheumatic fever, which later developed into rheumatoid arthritis.  Eventually the arthritis caused total physical ability.

Although disabled physically, his mind remained very sharp.,  George enjoyed many hours communicating on his ham radio with friends and family.  During the blizzard of 1949, he was able to help relay vital information to assist those who needed help,  In later years, George learned to use the computer despite having little use of his hands,  He got very adept at using a pencil with an eraser to type.

Family history was of great interest to George and he spent many hours doing research on the Botsford family and their ancestors.,  George was proud to email and share that information with other family members,  George's positive attitude through his struggles has been a great inspiration to his family and friends,

George was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Bruce.  He is survived by his older sister, Doris Leach of Ainsworth, his brother, Lewis, six nephews and other family members.

A combined memorial service for George and his brother, Lewis (who passed away November 22, 2024) was held on July 5, 2025 at the Ainsworth Cemetery. Hoch Funeral Home of Ainsworth assisted with arrangements. To leave an online condolence, please visit  www.hochfuneralhome.com  .
