Lyle D Stewart

Lyle D. Stewart was born in Bassett, Nebraska on January 18, 1942 to Frank and Esther (McDaniel) Stewart. He passed away on November 14, 2020 at the CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. Lyle grew up on ranches south of Long Pine and Bassett. He graduated from Rock County High School in 1960. While in school and after graduation, he worked at the Gamble’s Store and the gas station in Bassett. On December 22, 1962, he married Betty R. Davis in Ainsworth, Nebraska. To this union two daughters were born: Evelyn in 1963 and Linda in 1967. In the winter of 1962, Lyle went to work for Kenneth O’Hare and continued to work for the O’Hare’s until his death. Lyle spent his life farming and ranching, working hard in the great outdoors. He was a member of the Brown County Agricultural Society for 55 years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for 53 years. His first love was guns and he spent many years buying, selling, trading and repairing them. For 35 years, he went to gun shows and made many lasting friendships.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Esther Stewart; and sisters, Phyllis Schroeder and Joan Fredericksen. Lyle leaves to mourn his passing his wife of almost 58 years, Betty Stewart of Ainsworth; daughters, Evelyn (Jim) Jones of Ainsworth, and Linda (Chris) Tuttle of Meadow Grove, Nebraska; two grandsons, Brett (Caitlyn) Jones of Long Pine and Michael (Rachel) Jones of Norfolk, Nebraska; two great-grandchildren, Mercedes Jones of Norfolk and Merle Jones of Long Pine; brothers, Ivan (Lois) Stewart of Valentine, Nebraska and Robert “Zeke” Stewart of Fullerton, Nebraska; along with many nieces, nephews and other family members.

A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Brown County Agricultural Society in Johnstown, Nebraska. Service and Music Arrangements were provided by Joe McBride with the songs “The Long Black Train” and “Go Rest High On That Mountain” being performed at the service. Honorary Urn Bearers were: The Brown County Agricultural Society Directors. Masonic Rites were conducted by Ainsworth Silver Cord Lodge #224 AF & AM. A Private Family Inurnment followed in the Grandview Cemetery at Long Pine. Memorials were suggested to the Brown County Agricultural Society in Lyle’s name.
