Mr. LaVerne K. "Turk" Engle

Turk (L.K.) Engle was born on December 29, 1917 in Springview, Nebraska passed away peacefully on October 29, 2013 at the Brown County Hospital in Ainsworth, Nebraska at the age of 95 years and 10 months. He was raised by his father Sol and stepmother Alice Engle. Turk was the third of four sons. He lived in Springview, Nebraska until he met and married his wife of 73 years, Hazel Westover on October 26, 1940. To this union five children were born.
Turk served three years of WWll in the European Theater under General Patton. He was a truck driver and equipment operator until he retired in 1982 and returned to Ainsworth. He remained involved in driving trucks until he turned 80 years old. Turk's life memberships include Elk BPOE Lodge1790 and American Legion Post #79. He was a Brown County volunteer fireman throughout the 1950's.
Two children preceded him in death; his son Floyd (Buddy) Engle and daughter Janece Engle Painovich and his parents and three brothers. He is survived by his wife Hazel, of Ainsworth; son, Frank and wife Barbara Engle of Wheatland, Wyoming; daughter, Charylene and husband Bruce Cleveland of Rupert, Idaho, daughter Cheryl and husband Jim Fellenberg of Wasilla, Alaska; daughter-in-law, Madonna and husband Clifford Taylor of Unionville, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Ramona Piper of Kaysville, Utah, and Sharon Westover of Ashland, Nebraska; Nine-grandchildren, two-step-grandchildren, ten-great-grand children, and seven-great-great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece, Venita Hagerman of Ainsworth.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Hoch Funeral Home in Ainsworth, Nebraska with Pastor Neva Murphy officiating. Special music was offered by Joe McBride, with song selections of "A Love Without End, Amen" and "Master's Bouquet". Pallbearers were, Donald Moody, Brad Moody, Ken Smith, Bob Keim, Bob Maxwell, Bill Haskell, Vince Cleveland, Frank Engle Jr. and Lonnie Engle-Flesher. Honorary bearers were all of Turk's other friends. Organizational Rites were given by B.P.O. Elks Lodge#1790 and Military Honors were presented at the Ainsworth Cemetery by the Ainsworth American Legion Post #79. Memorials were suggested to the American Legion Post #79-American Legion Avenue of Flags Project, the Ainsworth Senior Center or to the Donor's Choice.
