Mr. Harold E. Ammon

April 29, 1921 — April 27, 2018

Harold Edward Ammon, 96 of Bassett, Nebraska passed away peacefully April 27, 2018 at Rock County Hospital Long Term Care. Harold was surrounded by family as he entered into his heavenly home. Harold was born at his parent's home on April 29, 1921 to Harold and Addie (Welton) Ammon. Harold spent his almost 97 years in Rock County on a ranch southeast of Bassett. He attended Hammond school and later Rock County High School. Harold's youth was spent working on the family ranch and learning the value of hard-work, family, and friendships.
Harold married Delores Schroeder on March 7, 1948 in Pender Nebraska at Delores's parent's home after a six month courtship. Harold and Delores purchased the homestead of John Rufus Ammon and lived on that ranch, just 1/4 of a mile from the ranch where Harold was born, for the next 50 years. Harold and Delores were blessed with five children, 13 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Harold enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, playing cards, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Sybrant Community Church and was instrumental in helping to move the church to its current location in 1963. Harold's faith in God allowed him to serve as a role model for all those who were privileged enough to know him. Harold always led by example. He was honest, humble, and always unfailingly kind. Harold had his own fashion sense. His signature style always included a pair of Osh-Kosh overalls purchased from the nearest farm store, unless of course, Delores picked out his clothes for a special occasion.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Addie; two sisters and brothers in law, Lucille (Dick) Hopkins, Marie (Laurence) Lange, bother Raymond Ammon, a brother that died at birth, and a son-in-law, Daniel Bell. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Delores; his children, Dee (Ron) Tech of Alda Nebraska, Keith (Lorraine) Ammon of Bassett, Shirley Bell of Gillette Wyoming, Gerald Ammon of Bassett, and Rhonda (Jeff) Wulf of Cambridge Nebraska; grandchildren Lori (Mike) Freilinger, Jeff (LeAnn) Tech, Sandi (Brian) Carson, Kurt Ammon, David (Danielle) Bell, Danna (Adam) Burchess, Richard (Heidi) Bell, Rachael (Josh) Peterson, Paul Bell, Tony (Maylin) Ammon, Misty (Ryan) Zulkoski, Jenna Wulf, and Jacob Wulf; 21 great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Eleonor Ammon. He was also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
