Gary D. Sell 80 of Springview, Nebraska passed away October 11, 2016 at his home with family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Gary was born January 20, 1936 at Winner, South Dakota to Henry and Theresa (Gehlsen) Sell. He grew up in Todd County South Dakota, the youngest of five children, along with his sister, Delores Holmes, and brothers, Gerald, Donald, and Howard. He attended school in Todd County.
Gary married Bobbi Pettit on April 24, 1958 in Winner. To this union were born, nine children; Cindy, Connie, Ryan, Debra, Dave, Merrit, Brett, Kaye Lynn, and John.
He ranched in South Dakota and Nebraska throughout his adult life. He was a police officer in South Dakota, and served as the Keya Paha County Nebraska Sheriff for twenty-eight years. After his retirement as Sheriff, Gary worked part time for the Brown and Rock County Sheriff departments. Gary enjoyed woodworking as evidenced by the many items he made for family and friends. He was also very proud of the casket he crafted for his final resting place here on earth.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, wife Bobbie, and his infant sons, Ryan and Brett. He is survived by his children, Cindy Lackey of Elko, Nevada, Connie (Scott) LeZotte of Rapid City, South Dakota, Debra (Keith) Davis of Madison, Nebraska, Dave (Mary Kay) Sell of Martin, South Dakota, Merrit Sell of Rapid City, Kaye Lynn (Larry) Day of Bartlett, Nebraska, and John Sell of Miller, South Dakota; sister, Deloris Holmes of Winner, and brother, Donald (Mary) Sell of Otis, Oregon; along with his fifteen grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family.
Funeral Services were held Monday October 17, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bassett, Nebraska with Father Phil Flott serving as officiant. Music was provided by Nichole Flynn and Jason Nelson. Special music selections of "Amazing Grace," "Old Rugged Cross," and "Be Not Afraid" were also provided. Internment followed at the Winner South City Cemetery in Winner, South Dakota. Hoch Funeral Home of Ainsworth was in charge of the arrangements.
